RAISING the DEAD

Matthew 10:5-8

King James Version

5 These twelve Jesus sent forth,

and commanded them, saying,

Go not into the way of the Gentiles,

and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:

6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

7 And as ye go, preach, saying,

The kingdom of heaven is at hand.

8 Heal the sick,

cleanse the lepers,

raise the dead,

cast out devils:

freely ye have received,

freely give.

It is only through the SON of GOD, that this is possible.

The matter of raising the dead.

Whether they be dead in body, or dead in spirit.

But for this post, we speak of the former

We know that JESUS could raise the dead.

Scripture testifies of it.

Luke 7:12-17

King James Version

12 Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city,

behold, there was a dead man carried out,

the only son of his mother, and she was a widow:

and much people of the city was with her.

13 And when the Lord saw her,

he had compassion on her,

and said unto her,

Weep not.

14 And he came and touched the bier:

and they that bare him stood still.

And he said,

Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.

15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak.

And he delivered him to his mother.

16 And there came a fear on all:

and they glorified God, saying,

That a great prophet is risen up among us;

and, That God hath visited his people.

17 And this rumour of him went forth

throughout all Judaea,

and throughout all the region round about.

JESUS would always attribute His power to GOD.

John 5:19-21

King James Version

19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them,

Verily, verily, I say unto you,

The Son can do nothing of himself,

but what he seeth the Father do:

for what things soever he doeth,

these also doeth the Son likewise.

20 For the Father loveth the Son,

and sheweth him all things that himself doeth:

and he will shew him greater works than these,

that ye may marvel.

21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead,

and quickeneth them; even so

the Son quickeneth whom he will.

We also learn that JESUS gave the same power to His apostles.

Yes, even including Judas, before the betrayal.

JESUS did promise His apostles:

John 14:12

King James Version

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you,

He that believeth on me,

the works that I do shall he do also;

and greater works than these shall he do;

because I go unto my Father.

Were the apostles able to raise the dead?

Absolutely.

Proof?

Through Peter.

Acts 9:36-42

King James Version

36 Now there was at Joppa

a certain disciple named Tabitha

which by interpretation is called Dorcas:

this woman was full of good works

and almsdeeds which she did.

37 And it came to pass in those days,

that she was sick, and died:

whom when they had washed,

they laid her in an upper chamber.

38 And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa,

and the disciples had heard that Peter was there,

they sent unto him two men,

desiring him that he would not delay

to come to them.

39 Then Peter arose and went with them.

When he was come,

they brought him into the upper chamber:

and all the widows stood by him weeping,

and shewing the coats and garments

which Dorcas made, while she was with them.

40 But Peter put them all forth,

and kneeled down, and prayed;

and turning him to the body said,

Tabitha, arise.

And she opened her eyes:

and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

41 And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up,

and when he had called the saints and widows,

presented her alive.

42 And it was known throughout all Joppa;

and many believed in the Lord.

Through Paul.

Acts 20:7-12

King James Version

7 And upon the first day of the week,

when the disciples came together to break bread,

Paul preached unto them,

ready to depart on the morrow;

and continued his speech until midnight.

8 And there were many lights in the upper chamber,

where they were gathered together.

9 And there sat in a window

a certain young man named Eutychus

being fallen into a deep sleep:

and as Paul was long preaching,

he sunk down with sleep,

and fell down from the third loft,

and was taken up dead.

10 And Paul went down, and fell on him,

and embracing him said,

Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him.

11 When he therefore was come up again,

and had broken bread, and eaten,

and talked a long while,

even till break of day, so he departed.

12 And they brought the young man alive,

and were not a little comforted.
